My name is Pete Hill and I am the founder of Aspire Maths Tutoring. I was formerly a secondary maths teacher at the same school for 23 years, prior to this I spent 8 years working in industry. I made the hard decision to leave this job and complete my higher education to become a teacher, but this was the best decision I ever made!
During my school teaching career I was a full time maths tutor for secondary and sixth form pupils and also a Head of Year and Head of Upper school (years 9,10 & 11). I have carried out a range of exam marking and spent many years adapting schemes of work to improve my lessons and make them accessible and fun for my pupils.
Since retiring from school teaching I have been tutoring privately and enjoy working with a range of students, from those wishing to improve their GCSE grades, to those re-taking exams and needing extra support, to younger pupils needing new ways to grasp core skills. I have even worked with parents and teachers wishing to improve their maths so they can understand and help with their children’s homework!
I am thrilled to work alongside Kelly Jones who is a Autism specialist tutor in a school and has 4 years’ experience as a private tutor. She has worked in secondary schools for 10 years working with students with special educational needs and students who find academic life challenging. She also helps students with Autism to understand themselves better and can advise both students and parents on how to cope. She has worked with students of all ages but specialises in Years 5 – 11. She teaches both Mathematics and English to GCSE level.
Our tutoring work can be in person or via video link at a time that suits pupils and fits into their busy schedules so is accessible and easy to implement. It is always important to us that all our students gain something from our lessons and we will always go the extra mile to make sure that learning is enjoyable.
From a personal perspective, having several bad experiences at school when I was younger it is important to me to ensure our sessions are positive, fun and that we have empathy for our pupils. That is what Aspire Maths Tutoring is all about!
